There are daily, monthly, and yearly jobs to be completed according to the standard schedule. The daily inspection includes routine visual checks, identifying possible defects, malfunctions, defacements. Rail cars are not required to visit a workshop unless, a repair need is detected.
Monthly maintenance always attracts workshop visit and includesoperational checks of basic equipments like heating, lighting, brake system elements conditions and perfect functioning, etc.,. In case of A/C units a functioning test is carried out. No automatic dismounting of the units / systems are required.
Yearly maintenance is a more complex job. In all cases rail car bogie ispartly disassembled. Mounting calibers are measured for physical dimensions, wear, etc.,. Brake system is disassembled into subcomponents and each of them are carefully inspected and replaced accordingly. The very key aim of the yearly maintenance jobs is to keep the rail car in trouble free condition during the next 12 months.
Small repairs
Basically there are two categories of small repair needs and they arehardly predictable. One is that some of the passengers use rail cars unporperly. The result is damaged interior equipment, or side wall or ceiling coverings, malfunctions of units installed in passenger areas. The second reason group existence is explained by the age and excessive operation of the rail cars. The average age is around 30 years; therefore, material or function defects may emerge due to the high age.
State authority test
The highest level of the scheduled works is the preparation jobs completed for authority test. Depending on the requisition and general conditions of the rail car authority test is carried out every 2-4 years or 800-1200 thousand km, whichever comes first. The entire rail car is fully disassembled, subcomponents and parts are checked for wear, dimensions, etc.,. This job requires a couple of hundred labor hours to carry out such an extensive reconditioning.
The exact date for overhaul of rail cars is defined during the earlier maintenance visits. The mileage interval of long distance rail cars operated in international service is closer to 1,2 mils km. The in-country operated shuttle InterCity cars authority test interval is shorter, and it is rather due in 800 thousand km. Some of the rail cars are equipped with axle side revolution counter. In all cases the rail car overhaul is performed in the Main Repair Centre.
