Remotorization
The technological goal behind the modernization and remotorization was, on one side, to retain on for the “second lifecycle” the best features of the diesel-electric Locomotives involved in this project. On the other hand, a number of new requirements emerged from the Traction operational point of view that had to be addressed. These items are like;
| Save fuel and lubricating oil. | ||
| Reduce locomotive engine’s harmful emissions. | ||
| Reduce locomotive’s noise level. | ||
| Reduce repair and operation costs. | ||
| Reduce energy utilization during the operation of auxiliaries (reached by power-save controlling). | ||
| Increase driver cabin’s comfort level. | ||
| Ensure the reliable operation of the vehicle for 15-20 year, | ||
| Improve information flow level for the drivers’ and the maintenance staff | ||
| Ensure the durable anticorrosion resistance and the expected aesthetical appearance of the internal and external coating system for the entire planned lifetime |
More than 50% of all Traction vehicles (340 Locos from the total of 650 units) are originally home manufactured (GANZ-MÁVAG) main line V43 Electric Locomotives. Therefore it was essential to develop the right technology for the second lifecycle of these electric Locos.

Driver’s Cab modernization
During the driver’s cab reconstruction the features of a comfortable and safe driving of the locomotive were primarily taken into consideration.
| Comfortable driver’s chairs type GRAMMER was installed. It can be regulated in the height direction and in sitting depth, and also can be turned round the own axle | |
| Healable rear-view mirrors increase the safety of driving independently of weather conditions both-sides. | |
| instead of original one controlling post there are two posts in the driver’s cab with the same technical conditions, which provide the same driving into both directions | |
| Air Conditioner Type MAC DK installed in order to improve comfort for the Loco-driver in the hot summer season. | |
| Separate new heating equipment is used at both drivers’ position, where heat-power and quantity of air can be regulated. | |
| Refrigerator installed for driver’s use. | |
Rail passenger cars repair
Followed by a running interval of 0,6 – 1,2 million km or two to four calendar years – depending on, which of the limits come first – state authority test must be executed on the rail passenger cars. This is very complex job that compresses a dismounting of the individual vehicle unit into pieces, components and main elements are fully renewed, some parts are remanufactured and re-assembled again.
